I went to Rocky Mountain National Park on Sunday evening in an attempt to find bull elk in velvet. Instead, I found a significant storm system. There was tremendous rain, sleet, hail, and lightning. After the storm subsided a bit, I stopped at the Beaver Ponds picnic area and found the herd of elk that had been hanging around the timber creek campground.

As I stood at the rail above the pond, the elk got way too close. I was cut off from the car, so had to just stand behind the rail and wait for them to pass. It was wonderful to see them, though the photography opportunities were quite limited.
